SIR, - AFTER reading the letter entitled A Sick Joke (Citizen, June 10), I wholeheartedly agree with helping the needy - but not at the expense of other poor people.

Being a refugee myself from the Second World War, I am now a 70-year-old widow living in Blackpool on a pension and have some idea what those people are going through.

My divorced daughter, with two children, has been getting £42 a week from the DSS, plus £37 child maintenance.

While living with me she only got £26 which left me to help support her.

All her money has been stopped now.

The annoying part is that a single man who used to live on my street, with £300 income a week, was awarded income support by the same officer. I think it's time the DSS investigated their own officers instead of women with children.

I should not have to support my daughter from my pension - it's a downright injustice and I am very angry.
