LEIGH'S Centenary Committee have released a limited number of free sites for local voluntary groups and charities to use at the town's celebration weekend.
But they must have innovative fund raising ideas to claim a space in the marquee at a family fun day at Pennington Flash Country Park on Sunday, August 8.
The three days, celebrating Leigh's 100 years as a borough, starts on Friday, August 6, with a Flash Concert starring Gary and Vera Aspey, the Appalacian Step Dancers and the Skyliner Band.
Tickets are £2, over 60's £1, and transport will be arranged from Leigh town centre.
On Saturday the main event is a marquee ball. Tickets at £25 include a bucks fizz reception, four course carvery buffet, and dancing to the Wigan Jazz Orchestra with international vocalist Mark Porter.
To apply for a free site at the fun day organisations must make a written application containing details of the group's work in the Leigh area, and the type of activity the space will be used for.
The closing date for applications is July 17 and successful requests will be notified after that date.
Applications should be sent to Mrs D Bowker, Cooks Shoes, 22-24 Market Street, Leigh, WN7 1DS.
Tickets for the other two events are available from Mrs Bowker on 01942 672567 or Rita Jones, Colliers Photographers, Railway Road, Leigh, ring 01942 671040.
