A "QUIET room" in Radcliffe Library will next week be dedicated to a man who did more than most to put the town on the map.
The late Mr Frank Sunderland worked in the library from 1948 to 1974.
The Radcliffe borough librarian and curator was also a local historian and author.
Following recent alterations at the library on Stand Lane, a separate area for large books has been created.
To mark its dedication as the Frank Sunderland Memorial Room, a plaque will be unveiled on Tuesday, July 6.
Library supervisor Mrs Barbara Walker said: "Frank was a member of the Radcliffe Local History Society which is still going strong today.
"And he wrote The Book of Radcliffe which is the best and most popular book on the local area that I have ever known.
"He was a popular and well-known public figure. Staff here who worked for him regarded him as an excellent boss."
Mr Sunderland's widow Edith will unveil the plaque. Libraries manager Mr John Carter will also be present.
