A BATTLE is brewing in Morecambe - over a public toilet.
The toilet block opposite the Grosvenor Hotel have been declared "Unfit for human habitation" but Labour councillors claim that the lack of alternative facilities are proving a little inconvenient.
Unlike similarly condemned toilets off Thornton Road, no portaloo has been provided and Labour Councillor Peter Robinson claims that visitors to the town are now finding themselves caught short.
He told the Citizen: "I would have thought it was common sense to provide a temporary amenity."
He insists visitors are being told: "Come to Morecambe. Walk along the Prom, Enjoy the spectacular views, but don't stop for an ice-cream or a cold drink."
He added: "It would appear that tourists are having to personally test the sea defences."
Councillor Robinson has written to Director of Services Anne Seex about the problem.
The manager of the joining Grovesnor hotel said he had been inundated with requests from holidaymakers to use facilities there.
