THE annual Parr Carnival will be held at Bold Miners Institute in Fleet Lane on Saturday, July 3.
In the build-up to the event youngsters at three local primary schools - St Vincent's, Broad Oak and Our Lady's - have been holding carnival costume workshops with the help of a professional artist. The costumes are designed on a literary theme to coincide with the National Year of Reading and the children will be encouraged to wear them at the carnival where the best design will be awarded a prize by Councillor Keith Deakin, representing the environmental group Parr Pathways.
The carnival, which runs from noon to 4pm, has been organised by Groundwork St Helens, the Derbyshire Hill Family and Community Centre and local residents with support from Parr Single Regeneration Budget and events include stalls, displays, entertainment, sports and games.
