TRAFFIC snarl-ups in Burnley town centre caused by the start of water mains renewal could get worse before they get better.
Temporary traffic lights and lane closures are affecting the crossroads of Manchester Road, Hammerton Street and Finsley Gate.
Beneath the busy junction is a major intersection of large water mains which are being renewed as part of North West Water's programme of network modernisation.
The cast iron pipes date back to the turn of the century and their age makes them prone to bursts. The work being carried out will secure the network for decades to come.
Work will take at least two weeks and has been timed to coincide with the local "wakes" holidays to minimise disruption to customers and traffic.
