THE mid-season update of the Kirkby Track League competition which is being held each Wednesday evening during the summer months, is showing that our local Blackburn and District CTC contingent are more than holding their own against some tough opposition from clubs across the North West.

In the combined senior and junior table Liverpool Mercury's Lee Matthews, the son of top veteran and ex-international road man Pete Matthews, is well in the lead with 82 points to date. However, the East Lancs-based club hold the next two positions with Shaun Pearson of Blackburn on 58 points and Ian Yates of Darwen third in 37 points, while infrequent visitors Dave Ebbrell (20 points) and Chris Lee (20) hold seventh and ninth positions respectively. In the juvenile and ladies league Stephen Dolan of Liverpool Mercury is romping away in the lead with 62 points, but the Blackburn club have Grant Howarth third with 22 points and May Stott fifth with 20 points.

In the Deeside Decider competition, which runs alongside the two leagues and is based on a selected event each Wednesday, the interim position has Lee Matthews in the lead followed by Shaun Pearson and Ian Yates in second and third places.

After a break for the recent Isle of Man Cycling Week, the racing continues each Wednesday and the CTC will be strengthened by a number of members now taking breaks from college and available to ride.
