RESULTS of a survey into the impact of a planned multi-million pound Tesco superstore in Burnley could be known within a fortnight.
The supermarket chain is hoping to develop a site off Centenary Way and the survey is being carried out by town planners before a decision is taken on whether to give the bid a green light.
The four owners of the site including Jewson Builder's merchants, British Telecom, Lancashire County Council and Burnley Council, have been served notice to quit.
Tesco has already bought the Jewson site and the builder's merchants will be moving to the former Mojo Cash and Carry off Yorkshire Street, Burnley.
Tesco's proposal is being considered by Burnley Council and once the results of the survey are known it will be back before planners to be determined.
A spokesman for Tesco said: "It is an exciting time for Burnley. The Burnley Town Centre Partnership is committed to achieving real change and putting the town back on the map. Three million pounds has already been secured to help regenerate the centre. Shopping is better, tourism is growing and businesses are investing.
"Tesco want to contribute to this energy meeting the vision put forward by the Burnley Town Centre Partnership."
The spokesman added that the proposed location would "attract shoppers back into the centre of the town and stimulate a market revival across Burnley."
