THE League of Veteran Racing Cyclists Thursday evening road race was held in fine summer weather conditions, and in the main event, covering riders from the age of 40 to 59, the first rider across the line after three laps of the 11-mile Bashall circuit was Paul Tabron of the Liverpool Mercury Club.
Best placed of our local riders was Chris Ridings of Briercliffe, who rides for the Clayton Velo club. He was only inches behind in fourth place whilst on-form Blackburn Veteran Dave Hargreaves could only take 10th slot.
In the 60-plus event, the winner was another Merseyside rider, Brian Ellis of Port Sunlight Wheelers, but Peter Riley and Hartley Stansfield riding for Ossie's Bikes of Nelson, were second and fourth respectively.
