HERE'S a loud-clanging yedscratter for our curious customers to chew over.

When were the alarm bells on police cars, ambulances and fire brigade vehicles replaced by wailing warning sirens?

The chappie who poses the puzzler (he says he's an avid follower of the old page but wishes to remain anonymous) believes the switch came in the early 1960s. And I understand that he and his taproom chums are heatedly divided on the subject.

ANYONE (perhaps a member of the emergency services?) able to put a date to it? If so please drop me a line.
