SAFETY first is the message from Preston police after figures for the past year reveal 140 accidents involving pedestrians crossing the road.
Sergeant Stewart Moxham of Preston's road safety unit, said: "The roads of Preston carry some of the highest volumes of traffic in the country. The police would urge parents to supervise their children as they play and teach them how to cross roads safely."
Motorists are also being urged to be more vigilant when driving through residential areas.
