IT would appear from residents' letters in The Journal and phone calls to Leigh Constituency Conservative Association, that they are in support of the scheme on the understanding that the £10 annual parking fee will virtually guarantee they can park their vehicles in front of their own home.
Following a recent open meeting at Leigh Conservative Club with regard to this scheme, a number of residents raised their concerns as to what would actually happen under this proposed scheme.
It was generally understood that the permit only entitles a resident to park within the nominated zone, which extends from Twist Lane to Windermere Road and Market Street to Findlay Street. There are no guarantees that residents can park in their own streets, let alone in front of their own house.
Secondly, the permit is only valid from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Anyone returning home within these times without permit will have to park outside the boundary of the parking zone.
From various views highlighted by residents on how the scheme will operate we believe that more detail of how it will actually operate should be made available.
Another open meeting is scheduled for July 14 at 8pm in Leigh Conservative Club to discuss this scheme when it is hoped ward councillors and borough officials will be present to explain the parking scheme in more detail and answer any queries.
