VOLUNTEERS are sought to help run a summer playscheme for disabled youngsters.
Schemes for 4-19 year-olds, who may have physical or learning disabilities, are organised by the Council's social services department.
They are run by four trained leaders but unpaid volunteers aged 16-plus are vital members.
Playscheme co-ordinator Terry O'Neill said: "We hope lots of people volunteer to help. We promise the experience will brighten your summer.
"It would be sad if we couldn't offer this much-needed service for lack of voluntary workers. Without their help and commitment the scheme cannot go forward.
"The more volunteers who come forward, the more young people with disabilities we can accommodate. Last year 13490 were kept happily occupied and stimulated by 90 volunteers.
"This year we hope to offer 180 places."
Volunteers get a training and achievement certificate from social services.
Playschemes run from Monday, July 12 to Friday July 30 at Kings Park Christian Centre in Leigh Road, Leigh. Others are being held at Haigh Hall, Wigan and, covering the Lowton and Golborne area, at Perry Brook Community School.
Volunteers should contact Terry O'Neill on 01942 732562.
