COACH Ellery Hanley has spoken of his "frustrations" at Saints and lack of money for new players.
"As with many other clubs, we have only a small squad and have been hit by injuries,' said Ellery. "So I informed the board I intended to bring two top stars to Knowsley Road in readiness for next season.
"When he was at Wigan Maurice Lindsay believed the crowd needed new faces to stimulate interest. But the Saints' directors' response was that no finance was available. Despite the salary cap, I find that surprising given that Phil Adamson returned to Australia.
"'To be frank, I feel there is a lack of professionalism in certain areas of Saints' management, which has obviously left me disenchanted because I regarded the position of coach as an exciting challenge when I arrived in the close season.
"I enjoy an excellent rapport with the players, but would be less than honest if I did not state that it is common knowledge within Knowsley Road that some officials and members of staff do not speak to me. However, that is their choice and my conscience is clear," added Hanley. Saints' chairman Howard Morris commenetd: "I am surprised at Ellery's comments and believe he is frustrated by the current run of bad performances for which he accepts full responsibility.
"As in any large organisation there have been a few personality clashes but there are two sides to every story, and the problem will be resolved before it has any effect on team performances.
"Regarding new players for next season Ellery is aware that the board is as anxious as he is to strengthen the squad which, don't forget, was top of the league only a few weeks ago and had beaten all the top sides.
"My board also has a good record for bringing in new faces and Ellery is also aware of the salary cap, reduced television money for next season, plus the possibility of further reduction before the season starts.
"In addition gates have dropped 40 per cent almost overnight and this could continue right up to the Bradford game at the end of the season. With all this in mind the board has told Ellery that we cannot make any signings at the moment," ended Mr. Morris.
