SPORTS fans are in for a real treat at Haydock Park Racecourse this Sunday.
In addition to the usual six-race top-class fare, the day features the offical launch of the Sir Alex Ferguson testimonial.
Members of Manchester United's historic treble-winning squad will be there to honour their manager at this, the first of a year-long programme of fund-raising events.
Other attractions on Sunday include skydivers, a children's playground and a celebrity five-a-side soccer match featuring the stars of Coronation Street and Brookside. Charities who will benefit from the event are the Elizabeth Hardie Ferguson Charitable Trust and Street to Stadium.
Sir Alex, himself a keen racegoer with six hprses in training, said: "I am grateful to Manchester United for granting me a testimonial, and I am looking forward to the fun and celebrations over the next 12 months."
One of his horses - Shinbone Alley - is scheduled to run in the 4.15pm six-furlong Done Bookmakers Keep Paying Out on United Maiden Stakes. Sir Alex also be attending a press conference with Gary Neville beforehand to look for individuals to form a horse racing syndicate.
Gates open at 11am and tickets can be booked on the ticket hot-line on 01942 402624.
