POLICE have issued a warning after a spate of hanging basket thefts.

Six baskets worth £30 each were stolen from outside Burlington's, Preston Road, Ribchester. And three were stolen from outside homes in West View, Clitheroe.

Marketing and public relations manager for Burlington's Joan Whittle said: "The baskets were particularly lovely. We had them made especially to flower until October and it is really annoying that they have been stolen already."

A spokesman for Clitheroe police said: "Good weather and light nights means these types of thefts are more commonplace. We are advising householders to secure baskets as best they can to make it more difficult for the thieves to steal."
