A SCHOOLBOY karter is getting into gear in the drive for a career in Formula One motor racing.
Jonathan Walker, 10, a pupil of Oakhill College, Whalley, is second in the cadet class of the Champions of the Future motorsport competition.
As Jonathan's hero Damon Hill lines up at Silverstone in tomorrow's British Grand Prix, he will be taking part in the finals of the Champions of the Future competition at the Three Sisters Race Circuit, Wigan.
More than 30 competitors will take part in eight-lap heats before a nail-biting final of 12 laps.
Jonathan, of Dinkley, said he was looking forward to the event and would jump at the chance of a Formula One career
If successful, he will win a trophy and host of top prizes, including a day in the pits at a premier racetrack.
