Lancashire Lynx 8pts, Whitehaven Warriors 21

LYNX slip to yet another disappointing home defeat this time at the hands of Whitehaven.

Lynx had plenty of possession but a mixture of individual errors and ill-discipline cost them dear.

Coach Steve Hampson said: "We had a lost of possession but if you cannot keep hold of the ball you won't score points.

"We had 22 sets of six in the first half but could only complete four.

"Most of the mistakes were schoolboy errors and after the last month it would appear we have gone backwards."

Lynx started well and were ahead with an early penalty from debutante Robert Rose, however, Whitehaven began to control the match with Lynx making far too many errors and they were ahead with a penalty from Kevin Hetherington and a try from Mark Cox.

The game had been simmering along but it exploded in the 24th minute when Lynx' Dave Murray was stretchered off after being felled with a dreadful high tackle, the referee only giving a warning to the culprit.

Lynx were still conceding too many penalties and they were punished by Kevin Hetherington, which gave Whitehaven a half-time 10-2 advantage.

They soon found themselves further behind when Graham Lewthwaite scampered over in the corner.

Lynx then had their best period of the game but then disaster struck when a loose pass was intercepted by Craig Walsh and he went the full length of the field to touch down.

Lynx continued to battle hard but their only reward came five minutes from time when P J Soloman crashed through the touch down with Robert Rose adding the conversion.
