DESPITE assembling a squad that looks equipped to mount a promotion challenge, Clarets boss Stan Ternent won't hesitate to raid the transfer market again.

Ternent has brought in three new players this summer to go with the half-dozen he signed in the second half of last season.

That's left him in a healthy position as he fosters added competition for places within his squad.

But if the right player comes up at the right price in the future, then Ternent will act again.

"It's taken me a year to get where we're up to.

"But if at anytime a player becomes available that I think would strengthen the squad, because it is a squad game now and the demands on the players are high, then I would try and get him," Ternent said.

The Burnley manager has always said he's prepared to bide his time to get the players he wants and that may be the case again.

And he appears to have some time on his side now that he has assembled a squad that already has plenty of strength in the depth.

"In my view there's no doubt that this squad is certainly stronger than the one I inherited at the start of last season," he added.

Ternent has now got options in every position - with Aston Villa striker Alan Lee and defenders Dean West and Mitchell Thomas the latest pieces in the jigsaw - except in goal.

With Craig Mawson progressing as Paul Crichton's understudy, Burnley still need a second senior keeper.

However, there'll be no panic if the Clarets start the season with their current goalkeeping resources as Crichton proved up to the job last season.
