THE evening breeze was too strong for rides in the hot air balloon but everything else at a summer fair at Broadway County Primary School, Haslingden, was on the up and up.

The Parent Teachers and Friends Association event raised £1,250 for school funds, which will go towards the refurbishment of the crafts area.

A raffle raised £163.80, which Barclays Bank has promised to match pound for pound. The Mr Cool hot air balloon was a feature of the show, which also included craft and plant stalls, a barbecue and a wet-the-teacher sideshow.

Secretary Pam Green said: "We would like to thank everyone for their help and for the support we received from the parents.''
