A man accused of murdering his brother-in-law has been further remanded in custody.

Mohammed Meherban, 25, of Higher Antley Street, Accrington, appeared before Hyndburn magistrates charged with murdering Mohammed Azam.

Father-of-three Mr Azam, 36, of Bullough Close, Accrington, was found dead at Meherban's home early on Monday, July 5.

A post-mortem examination showed he died from head injuries. Another of the dead man's brothers-in-law, Mohammed Rafiq, 34, of Claret Street, also appeared before the court.

He is charged with making threats to kill Mr Azam in front of Safina Hussain and Azrah Bibi on July 4. Neither man applied for bail and both were remanded in custody to August 6.

They will face committal proceedings on September 6.
