A UNIQUE community project will celebrate the centenary of an Oswaldtwistle primary school.
Old folk and pupils will join forces to mark Spring Hill County Primary School's 100th anniversary which will start on October 2.
Pupils are teaming up with residents from nearby Spring Hill House Nursing Home to create two mosaic monuments to mark the community's history.
Children as young as five and residents as old as 95 will work side-by-side to design and produce the monuments, appropriately named "Spring Hill Cares".
The ornaments, four foot in diameter, will feature images of Oswaldtwistle from the 20th Century and be placed in the grounds of the school and care home.
The school and nursing home have already pooled their resources to fill shoeboxes to send to Kosovar refugees.
A further link between the two is school deputy head Joyce Shaw's husband Brian, who is head of maintenance at the home.
Joyce said: "Our children's innocence and enthusiasm complement beautifully the experience and skills of the Spring Hill residents.
"Each generation has something to teach the other."
Youngsters and residents are committed to raising £500 towards the mosaics and have asked Hyndburn art development company Raku Works Sculptural Arts to help bid for top-up cash.
Donna Hernon of Spring Hill House Nursing Home added: "This project helps to improve our local and environment and strengthen our links with the community."
