TORY MP John Lee was set to quit as Minister for Tourism because he was unhappy with the Government's vote-losing poll tax plans.
He told Mrs Thatcher that after six years as a junior minister, he was fed up with the time and effort needed for the ministerial post.
He said he needed the back-bench freedom to speak out against Government measures he disagreed with.
