NICK Dougherty said he is 'over the moon' following his appointment as England captain for the Boys Home Internationals set to be staged in North Wales next month.

The 17-year-old Shaw Hill ace has already skippered England to victory in the World Boys Team Championships and the European Boys Team Championships so far this season.

And now the Lancashire star has been handed the chance of leading his side to the hat-trick - something which has never been done before in the history of Boys' golf.

"I'm absolutely over the moon about it - it's fantastic," said Dougherty.

"It's been a brilliant year for both myself and the country.

"All that's left for us to do now is win the Home Internationals and no-one has ever won all three before.

"It would be great if we could pull off, especially in the year I am captain."

Dougherty is in action again this weekend when he will contest the English Boys Championship at Carrif near Southampton.

Then he will take part in the Home Internationals at Conwy which start on August 4.
