ON behalf of the Queen's Lancashire Regimental Association, I would like to thank the people of Blackburn and visitors to the town centre who braved the weather to support our Somme Day parade and concerts on Saturday, July 3.
The street collection in aid of the Regimental Chapel Appeal Fund raised £419.80.
We are hoping to raise £5,000 to pay for the refurbishment of the Regimental chapel in Blackburn Cathedral in time for the Millennium. We must never forget the thousands of servicemen who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.
Donations can be sent to me c/o Somme Barracks, Moss Street, Blackburn. Cheques should be made payable to 'QLR Charity.'
We also thank members of the Town Centre Marketing Group who kindly sponsored the parade and concerts.
ALF WRIGHT (Secretary, Queen's Lancashire Regimental Association), Whalley New Road, Blackburn.
