I READ with interest your article stating that St Helens Planning Committee had turned down an application by Day and Nite Stores to install a hole-in-the-wall cash machine at their new Greenfield Road site.
I wonder if this is the same committee that gave planning permission for the store to open in the first place nextdoor to a newsagents and to allow them to sell newspapers at half-price? I wonder if they are surprised to see that the newsagents has now ceased trading?
Perhaps the councillors and those members of the public who have trailed into the shop each day to save a few pence, will spare an occasional thought for the family who have now lost their business and livelihood.
