AFTER seeing your front page (LET, July 8) on the 'super' hospital which will be built at Queen's Park, Blackburn, and which will bring the closure of the Royal Infirmary, I have to admit that I was shocked by the latter.
They say that the Infirmary is Victorian and outdated, but I know it can still do its job.
I have needed a lot of hospital treatment in the past, most of which has been at the Infirmary, where the care and treatment has been first-class, so the building being Victorian doesn't alter the care and treatment you receive.
Queen's Park will be much harder to get to, especially if you haven't got a car, but there are buses passing the Infirmary all the time and the cost is much less.
Because Blackburn and Darwen is such a vast area, there is definitely room for two hospitals and the demand is such that the Infirmary could run for many more years to come.
I, for one, will be sorry to see the Royal Infirmary close down.
J KIMBERLEY (Mr), Duddon Avenue, Darwen.
