PUPILS at Claremont Primary School were bowled over by a pilot scheme to tackle vandalism in a Blackpool park.
The youngsters took part in a game of bowls at Claremont Park as part of an initiative to teach children to care for their surroundings.
As well as bowling, pupils also helped council staff plant shrubs and took part in a special bug hunt organised by Marton Mereside Nature Reserve.
The scheme is the idea of the Bowls Development Group, which features Bowling League and Federation representatives and Blackpool Council representatives.
Claremont Park has been vandalised repeatedly in recent years and young footballers have also damaged the greens. Leisure chiefs hope that other Blackpool schools will now take up the scheme.
