AFTER reading the views of the former leader of Hyndburn Council, County Councillor George Slynn, about the proposed Safeway supermarket in Great Harwood (Letters, July 12), I have to ask who is writing his script.
There were so many anomalies and mistakes, I just wonder where he's coming from.
Firstly, there are three Conservative councillors in Great Harwood and, as I recall, I have not heard one word of dissection on the planned supermarket development from any of them, or for that matter from any of the 23 Tories on the council.
Secondly, as a former chairman of development services, County Councillor Slynn, that for this application to go forward, it will have to fulfil all the necessary planning regulations, no matter who wants it or not.
Thirdly, he attacked Councillor Adrian Shurmer on this issue. Now, let me see, would I not be correct in saying that Councillor Shurmer's election campaign not three months ago centred on two things, both of which were close to George's heart - traffic calming and the Safeways development.
I think I am also right in saying that Councillor Shurmer handed out the biggest thumping at the polls suffered by a council leader.
George should keep quiet and fade away with some grace, but even after the election result on May 6, even that may not be possible.
