MOTORBIKE racer John McGuinness did his home town of Morecambe proud on Sunday when he won the prestigious Cock o' the North Trophy in Scarborough. McGuinness achieved a start to finish victory riding the Grand Prix NSR500, effectively skinning the competition alive. Among those the Team Vimto rider left standing were the hotly tipped David Jeffries, previous winner of North West 2000 and TT Triple Winner.
Talking to the Citizen about his win McGuinness said: "I got a blistering start and just got my head down. I was expecting a challenge from David but it never came. To be honest it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be."
It is back to British Championship action now for McGuinness when he defends his 23 point lead in the 250cc series in Cheshire.
