A COMBINATION of poor conditions and bad luck plagued Morecambe rally driver Katy Mashiter at the weekend. Mashiter and her racing partner Adrian Loxam finished 31st after the first day of the GKN/Demon Scottish Hillrally in Perth. Although the weather was hot and dry all weekend the ground had only just begun to dry out underneath which caused big problems for the duo's Truck Cab Land Rover.
To make matters even worse they ran out of petrol in one of the stages only 200 yards before the finish. After recovering from this setback things got worse still when their air filter failed after filling up with mud. Eventually Katy and Adrian got going again and at the end of the stage the marshals were amazed to see them finish, as 46 cars had started the race but only 32 managed to reach the end. They finished fifth in class and last on the road.
