ST ANNES lost their second consecutive Vaux Northern League match when Leyland Daf beat them by ten runs at Vernon Road on Saturday (July 10).
Batting first, Leyland Daf lost their first wicket at 20 when James Atkins was lbw to David Callaghan for seven.
Six runs later James Aspinall was bowled by Callaghan for two runs.
Opener Neil Dasgupta perished with the score on 54.
He was caught by Russ Bradley off John Cotton for 20 and the visitors' fourth wicket fell at 82 when their professional Stephen John was caught by Callaghan off John Cotton for 12.
Then Stuart Catterall and Alan Richardson featured in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 79.
The former was undefeated with 80 and the latter 21.
Catterall faced 122 balls and hit 10 fours and one six.
His 50 came in 91 minutes off 102 balls.
Leyland Daf reached 161-4 off their allotted overs.
In reply, St Annes lost Adrian Darlington with one one run on the board.
He was caught and bowled by Stephen John for nought.
Bobby Denning and Dave Callaghan added 37 for the second wicket before the latter was bowled by Simon Hogan for 23. Then St Annes collapsed to 78-6 but an eighth wicket partnership of 54 between 18-year-olds Adam Cotton and Joe Davies put St Annes back into contention.
However, they lost their last two wickets for only six runs and finished on 151.
Adam Cotton top scored with 33, while Leyland Daf captain David Makinson took 4-36 from 20 overs.
This Saturday (July 17) brings a break in the league programme with the first round of the Vaux Bitter Cup.
St Annes have probably the toughest game because they entertain current league leaders Darwen at Vernon Road.
Darwen are currently 14 points ahead of St Annes in the league, so a win for St Annes would give them some confidence often two league defeats on the trot.
