COUNCILLORS are likely to give the go-ahead on Monday (July 19) to a new housing development in Blackpool.

Members of the regeneration and development committee will discuss an application from McLean Homes to build 126 houses on 11 hectares of land between Carleton Cemetery and Moor Park, next to a biological heritage site (BHS).

The development would also incorporate the creation of a public open space to include playing fields and play equipment, a public footpath which currently cuts across the site, traffic calming measures as well as a new cycleway and bridleway.

If plans are given the go ahead, 107 of the houses will be detached, most with integral garages, and 19 mews-type terraced houses.

Concerns have been expressed about the distance of BHS ponds from the houses and assurances have been made by the developers that the site's nature conservation interests will be safeguarded.

There were also fears of increased traffic along Moor Park Avenue at its junctions with Bristol Avenue and Kincraig Road, close to Moor Park School. This has also been addressed with the proposal of mini roundabouts at each junction.

The site is open greenfield which was allocated for residential development and public open space in the local plan. At yesterday's full council meeting (July 14) members agreed to put the land up for sale.
