VISITORS to Leigh fire station will have the chance to experience the thrill of a real life fire scenario.

The fire fighters' open day on July 31 will see volunteers dress up in uniform and experience the horrors of the smokehouse.

There will also be periodic displays of the destruction that can be caused by throwing water onto hot, burning oil.

Among the other attractions at the St Helens Road event is a display of old and new fire appliances, the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and police and ambulance exhibitions.

A social evening follows at the station. Stars are the band, Soul Solution, and there will be a disco and karaoke.

Tickets at £5 are available from the station, ring 671171. All proceeds go the the Fire Services Benevolent Fund.
