VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help support victims and witnesses of crime at Lancaster Magistrates Court.
National charity Victim Support have set up The Crown Court Witness Service in Lancaster which aims to help victims, witnesses and their families before, during and after the trial.
A spokesman for the charity said: "For many people called to give evidence, attending court is a new experience and one that they find confusing or even distressing."
The Witness Service will offer a confidential service including general information on court proceedings, emotional support and accompaniment in the courtroom if required to give evidence.
Volunteers are welcome from all sections of the community. You will be given comprehensive training and full support by the co-ordinator. No previous experience is necessary and the training course will take place in early September.
If you want to help call the Witness Service on (01524) 62907.
