THERE is only one word on the lips of Bury Kosovar refugee Nazmije Veseli - "Hakmarrje!" (Revenge!).
Six weeks after arriving safely in Bury, the mother of two has received news of the Serbian atrocities that have wiped out no fewer than 15 members of her family.
Fourteen were shot by Serb paramilitaries while one, Nazmije's brother Shemsi, was burned alive in a field. There is no trace of the children of her dead relatives.
"I won't rest until I have revenge," said Nazmije. "I am now more determined to return home quickly to ensure that the Serbians are made to pay for the murder of my family." Nazmije broke down in tears on Sunday evening after her sister contacted her at the Geoffrey Kershaw Centre to tell her of the family death toll: one brother, three uncles, two aunts, eight cousins, and one nephew - aged between 23 and 65 years.
Nazmije said: "All of them, except my brother who was burned alive, were shot by the Serbian firing squads. They were simple, common people who were killed for no reason other than that they are Albanians.
"Three of my family were identified by Serb neighbours to the police before they were taken and murdered in a field. I know the names of these informants. I can identify them."
Despite her traumatic loss, Nazmije's heart remains strong, however, for the sake of her own two children and her husband Agim.
The dental nurse said: "My family, like all Kosovars, are people who wanted freedom. We have got that now but the cost in lives has been great."
