TRAINEE builders are putting their skills to the test by transforming run-down houses in Pendle into desirable places to live.
Pendle Young Builders Project involves trainees aged between 16 and 24 who were previously unemployed. Since enrolling on the project, they have been receiving practical building experience supplemented by a day-release course at Burnley College.
And their first renovation project, a terraced property on Fir Street, Nelson, is now complete.
Trevor Mitton, Pendle Young Builders project manager, said: "The property at Fir Street is the first of many houses that will be renovated as a result of the project."
All of the houses to be renovated were specifically purchased for the project by Staffordshire Housing Association, who intend to sell them or rent them once the work is complete.
Bob Evans, from the housing association, said: "These properties, like the house on Fir Street, are being re-developed throughout the borough to a very high standard. Anyone interested in buying or renting one on our list can contact us on 01282 611088."
