A TEENAGER needed 100 stitches after he was brutally slashed with a beer bottle outside a nightclub on the holiday island of Corfu.
Brennan Clemance, 18, underwent a five hour operation at the weekend to repair a slashed throat, cheek and chest.
He was attacked on a night out in Kavos, Corfu, on Friday with three friends after one of them was threatened by a British man with a brick close to the Limelight club.
Brennan, a plastic mouldings worker, went to help and is thought to have been hit over the head then slashed with the broken bottle.
His parents Linda and Brennan of Surrey Road, Whitebirk, Blackburn, have been frantically trying to get information about their son and the incident which left him close to death.
"It's every parent's worst nightmare," said Linda. "I just didn't know where to start and it has been like banging my head against a brick wall. Brennan is not a trouble maker or big drinker. He wouldn't hurt a fly and would rather walk away from a fight.
"He says he looks like a freak with all the cuts on his face and body. He described his face as having a Chelsea smile like the Kray twins used to do because there are two large slashes. He's going to be emotionally scarred too because he's such a lovely looking lad and takes a lot of care of his appearance, playing sport and going to the gym." Doctors at the private Greek clinic where he is being treated said he had "big problems" when he arrived but was now much better.
Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph from his bed Brennan said: "The main thing I remember about the attack is seeing blood spurting out of my neck.
"I'm hoping to speak to the police soon and want to come home. I've been told one of the doctors may travel with me."
The British Consulate is aware of the situation and the local police have been notified.
Linda added: "We just want him home on British ground but we also want the man who did this to be brought to justice. There were plenty of witnesses and he can't be allowed to get away with it."
"We haven't spoken to the doctors yet but Brennan says they said his attacker should be up for attempted murder, the injuries are so bad. We're lucky he's alive."
The former Witton Park High School pupil was due to fly home from the Club 18-30s trip he booked through Co-op Travel in Blackburn on Tuesday after spending two weeks in the popular resort. It is only second time he has been on holiday abroad.
Donna, one of his five sisters, plans to fly out to be with him if he is unable to travel home in the next few days.
She added: "He's out there in the middle of the strange country in pain and I want to be with him."
Club 18-30s representatives at the company's office in Kavos said they were aware of the incident and were doing all they could to help.
Blackburn MP and Home Secretary Jack Straw promised to look into the matter.
He added: "I will get in touch with his parents then make inquiries with the consulate section of the foreign office to try and find out what is happening."
