RISING netball star Anna Newell played in the second game of the England Youth 2000 Australian tour.
The 19-year-old from Blackburn was part of a strong English performance against the Canberra Nationals senior team, losing 47-62 against the current Canberra state champions.
England started the game very brightly, trailing 27-28 at half time after winning the first quarter 13-10. The experience and strength of the senior side started to show in the second half, and they began to dominate England's young hopefuls. The third quarter was decisive, Canberra outscored England 18-9.
Crolla played as wing attack, Newell as centre and Schofield as goalkeeper. Taylor was a third quarter substitute for Chioma Ezeogu of London, and signalled a tactical switch with Newell moving to wing defence and Taylor taking over as centre. The tour is intended to give young English netballers a taste of the Australian style of play. In the first match of the tour England beat Australian Capital Territory Academy, a mixture of Under 17 and Under 19 players, 36-31.
