SHEFFIELD United keeper Alan Kelly is believed to be in the frame as one of the potential replacements targeted by Blackburn Rovers boss Brian Kidd if Tim Flowers finally gets his wish to leave Ewood.

But, after weeks of inactivity, there were still no signs today that any club was prepared to make a definite move for the former England man.

Sheffield United sources revealed that a number of players could be leaving Bramall Lane soon and the asking price for Republic of Ireland international Kelly is thought to be around £500,000.

Other clubs are interested, including Aberdeen, but if it came down to money Rovers should have an edge.

That is supposing, however, that Flowers goes.

Leicester are one club known to be interested but have not yet made a concrete offer.

They are touring in the South West and have taken Utrecht keeper Stefan Posta on trial but that is thought to be because their only other keeper Pegguy Arpexhad has an ankle injury.

At the moment, Leicester appear to be the only ones in the hunt - albeit on the fringe - but Sheffield Wednesday might yet declare an interest.

It seems to need one positive move for Flowers to start a chain reaction.
