A VOLUNTARY group dedicated to improving the local community is planning a day-long conference on crime.
Blackburn East Area Community Help Partnership, or BEACH, was set up several years ago by local residents.
BEACH is concerned about growing levels of crime and disorder in areas like Whitebirk, Audley and the streets around Burnley Road.
And the group has invited civic dignitaries and crime fighting experts to the conference.
The event is being held at Accrington Road Community Centre from 10am-3pm on Saturday, August 21.
Crime, disorder and road safety will be discussed, along with ways of applying for money from the Government under the Single Regeneration Budget scheme.
Speakers who have agreed to appear include Councillor Dave Hollings and Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Malcolm Doherty.
The council's community safety officer Geoff Whitehead has also agreed to take part.
For more information, contact the BEACH Partnership at 28 Thornton Drive, Hoghton, Preston PR5 OXL.
