STAN Ternent has ruled out the prospect of making a second bid for Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard.
The Burnley boss has already had a £250,000 bid rejected by Walter Smith for the former Oldham stopper this summer.
And he won't be making another approach despite reports on Merseyside suggesting the Goodison club could be prepared to listen to offers again as Thomas Mhyre battles back from a broken leg.
"I'm not about to go back in for Gerrard," said Ternent.
"I can't afford him and he's not available at the moment anyway so that one is out of the equation."
Goalkeeping cover for Paul Crichton and Craig Mawson remains Ternent's number one priority.
But he isn't about to panic buy as the build up to the new season gathers momentum and he may now consider a loan deal as another alternative.
French trialist Sebastian Renaud was the latest keeper to be given a run out in last night's 4-1 friendly defeat at Nationwide Conference outfit Morecambe, where former Claret Phil Eastwood scored twice for the Shrimps.
But Ternent has decided against pursuing his interest in the Frenchman and will continue to widen his net in a bid to bring in quality cover.
"Sebastian played last night but he's not what we are looking for," said Ternent. "We have a look at trialists all the time and I'll continue to keep looking.
"But I can always bring someone in on loan if anything happens to Paul Crichton.
"And we've still got Craig Mawson whose a good, young kid."
Meanwhile, Ternent plans to give everyone a run out in the Clarets' high-profile friendly with Everton at Turf Moor tomorrow.
Burnley fans will get a chance to see summer signings Alan Lee, Dean West, John Mullin and Mitchell Thomas.
And the Clarets chief was adding the finishing touches to his side's preparations today.
"It should be a good game," said Ternent.
"It's the fans first chance to see our new signings and it should be a good test against quality opposition.
"I'll try and give everyone a game in the first team squad.
"So 16 or 17 players should get a run out as we try a few different things."
Meanwhile, Phil Eastwood's double salvo against the Clarets last night could earn the young forward a deal with Morecambe.
Eastwood has been on trial at Christie Park following his release by Burnley at the start of the summer and he has played in all four of their friendlies to date.
And the 21-year-old would jump at the chance of resurrecting his career at the Conference club. "Ideally, I'd like to get back into the Football League if I can but I know the Conference is also a good level," said Eastwood.
"I've had a few phone calls since I left Burnley but nothing has come of it so I'm training with Morecambe.
"And so far I've been impressed with the set-up.
"It seems a very well organised club, and they're a good set of lads."
Eastwood took only 51 seconds to get off the mark against his old club.
Michael Knowles then added a second for the Shrimps six minutes later.
And the Clarets only chance of the first half fell to Anthony Shandran but keeper Andy Banks made a fine double save.
Eastwood added a second eight minutes after the break before he and another ex-Claret, Andy Farrell, were replaced.
And though Shandran pulled one back after good work from Brad Maylett, Morecambe's Barry Keeling made it 4-1 with 10 minutes left.
"It was great to get off the mark so quickly," added Eastwood.
"I wanted to prove people wrong and I think I had a decent game."
Burnley lined up: Renaud, Scott, Devenney, Bowden, Heywood, Williamson, Clark, Kelly, Shandran, Maylett, and Kevan.
