POLL TAX figures announced by the Government were welcomed by Conservatives in East Lancashire. Blackburn Conservative Association president Arthur Holmes said the news was "wonderful" for Blackburn. But the extra £100m package to cushion the effect of poll tax in areas, including East Lancashire, was branded by Labour as a last-ditch vote-grabbing exercise.
