RIDERS from Astley & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway have enjoyed mixed fortunes.
They recorded their first Manchester League Division Two victory of the season at Gin Pit.
Damien Hack and Martin Phillips sped to maximum scores with good back-up from the rest of the team.
Final score: A&T 69, Bury 63, Tameside 47.
Scorers: Martin Phillips and Damien Hack 16, Robert Black 14, David Farley 12, Mark Marshall and Andrew Blakeley 11, Darren Blakeley 9, Matthew Helme 7.
A&T then hosted the first of three National rounds in the British Junior League.
Although not having qualified as a team, A&T had plenty of interest with five riders in the Individual Grand Prix series.
Top contender Damien Hack, third in the National placing after four regional rounds in the U16 series, saw his chances go when he came down at the first bend after three riders clashed.
The race was not re-run and he finished in the C final, which he won.
He now looks to have too much ground to make up to win the overall series.
In the U13 match Robert Black raced to a 16-point maximum before finishing third in the A final.
His absences from earlier races mean he is well out of contention in the series.
In other events Sean Daltry, Martin Phillips and David Farley found the going tough.
A&T had to default the North/Midlands Division Two match at Hull due to a lack of riders.
Having won their first two matches, it seemed to be going well, but only Phillips, Hack, Farley and Marshall turned up.
