NEWLY declared Lord, Councillor Peter Smith now bears the title Baron Smith of Leigh, of Wigan in the County of Greater Manchester.
Cllr Smith explained his title: "It was always going to be Leigh, that is where I was born, and of course it is Leigh's centenary which is fitting.
"I had to choose another territory so I chose Wigan where many people know me as Leader of the Council."
But Cllr Smith won't be lording it with a personal coat of arms.
"The cheapest costs £4,500. Perhaps I'll think about it if I win the Lottery," said the Baron.
