HUNDREDS of thousands of pounds are to be pumped into Preston's troubled Callon estate.

Plans include getting residents to come up with their own artistic creations to be used on the estate, such as floorscapes, railings and fancy street furniture.

It is hoped the scheme will instill pride into the estate and help reduce the amount of vandalism in the area.

Funding of £500,000 is already in place to improve the estate over the next two years.

The cash will pay for replacing kerbs and resurfacing roads. And traffic-calming measures will be provided to help make the estate safer.

Council chiefs estimate it will cost £292,913, to sort out the remainder of the roads in the precinct, while a public consultation programme will find out what the public want.
