HIGH-FLYING St Annes IV were dealt a sharp lesson in the rain by lowly neighbours South Shore III in their Fylde League division 2 match.
Looking secure thanks to a stand of 76 between the ultra-consistent Duncan Webb (71 not out) and Mike Hartley (21), St Annes declared at 155-5 and gave themselves little more than an hour and a half to bowl out South Shore and still keep their opponents interested.
However, the most positive of approaches from Steve Norris (83 not out) and Vic Shields (57) turned things sour.
St Annes' fielding was well below par and although the ball was wet, the bowlers struggled badly as South Shore finished on 157-3.
A double-header next weekend against the league's top two should determine their promotion hopes for the season.
