WITH regard to Mr E .Collier's letter (Mailbox, July 15), I find it amazing that the Green Party representative Chris Maile is against the re-opening of Kenyon junction as a railway station serving Leigh and other areas. Mr Collier includes environmental support in his wish to see the station re-opened, as well as economical.
On TV and in the papers we're seeing John Prescott pushing everyone to get out of their cars and on to public transport in support of environmental issues.
Toll charges on major motorways are being introduced for the same reasons; Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is trying to introduce a service designed to help improve the environment. Mr Collier's wish for the station to be re-opened and his outlines are beneficial to the environment as well as the town.
Since the news that Salford is getting its own 'Snowdome', it seems to me that Mr Maile is gleefully rubbing his hands and believes that if the Kenyon junction plan gets knocked back, it will be the end of Xanadu. Mr Collier wants the station with or without Xanadu, not least because of its green issues.
From what I can see I really believe that if the 'Green man' had his way we'd all be swinging from trees or walking on our knuckles. I suggest he gets up out of his burrow and gets a grip on reality.
This town needs a railway station and at the moment Kenyon Junction is an ideal choice. What it doesn't want is an eccentric who is 400 miles from home.
