A GROUP of Saints fans are drawing up plans to establish an independent supporters club.
They aim to establish meaningful dialogue with the board and to present the media with reliable comment on fans' issues.
Calling themselves the Independent Saints' Supporters Association, they will hold their first meeting at the Black Bull Hotel, Knowsley Road, tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm.
Dave Dooley, a spokesperson for the proposed organisation, said: "The ongoing debacle surrounding the suspension of Ellery Hanley was the last straw for many fans. We have had to sit back and witness representatives of the Directors and individuals at the centre of the controversy perform for the media.
"The fans have needed a strong, independent voice to convey our opinions to the press and television. Only an independent supporters group could have put forward the fans feelings on this crucial matter."
He added: "Saints fans have never felt any rapport with the Board of Directors. If we are to move forward as a Club then the fans must have a strategic role in the future of St Helens RLFC. The paying spectators are the lifeblood of this Club, we can no longer just be taken for granted. The time has come when the fans voice must be heard in the media and the Boardroom."
