I FAIL to recognise any breakthrough in the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour following the recent reports about "Operation Blackrod" which has supposedly reduced crime and anti-social behaviour on the streets of Morecambe.
In the West End there is clear evidence of persistent problems caused by young people who live in houses of high multiple occupation without any supervision from the landlords.
The problems are predominantly noise nuisance and intimidating behaviour towards law abiding people who live in the problem areas.
We have to recognise that someone must be made accountable for the problems caused by these tenants, but more importantly a greater input from the police must be made in the problem areas.
Figures and percentages are deceptive, talking to residents in the West End and patrolling the streets will give a more accurate indication to monitor how effective police operations have been.
